THE NEXT STEP
If you want any more information about the courses described in this prospectus, please contact
the teachers named in the subject pages, usually the Head of Department. If you have any
questions about the Sixth Form in general then contact the Head of Sixth Form, Mr Purdy, or the
Head of Year, Dr Foody (Head of Year 12 2020-21). You are encouraged to consider talking to Sixth
Formers themselves.
Year 11 students and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend the Sixth Form Information
Evening which will be held at the school on:
Wednesday 22nd January 2020
The evening will give you the opportunity to hear about the courses directly from the teachers
themselves, as well as to hear about Sixth Form life in general. You will also be able to meet and
chat to students currently in Years 12 and 13. There will be three opportunities to attend a fifteen-
minute introductory presentation: two in the Queen’s Hall, one at 6.30pm and one at 6.50pm, and
one at 6.40pm in the lower ground floor study room of the Sixth Form Centre. Subject
presentations will begin at 7.00pm. External applicants are advised to arrive for the 6.30pm
presentation, which will give time for familiarisation: prefects will be on hand to guide.
Students who are not currently members of Keswick School are requested to confirm their
intention to attend with Mrs McIntosh, Sixth Form Learning Supervisor, on 017687 72605
extension 276 or carolmcintosh@keswick.cumbria.sch.uk , if they have not already done so.
A few days after the Information Evening, Keswick School Year 11 students will be surveyed: asked
to choose their three subjects and their order of preference. Applicants from other schools will be
given the chance at the Information Evening to do the same. From this information we shall
compose option columns which we then publish on the Application Form for 2020 entry.
Then we will ask you to apply formally to the Sixth Form, filling in the Application Form for 2020
entry, telling us which subjects you intend to study from the columns provided. We will also ask
you to set out why you want to study in the Sixth Form at Keswick School in the form of a personal
statement.
You should submit your application as soon as you are ready, but you must submit it by Friday
14th February 2020.
During the spring term we will invite all applicants and their parent(s) for a meeting to discuss the
process and implications of joining the Sixth Form. Applicants from other schools will be invited for
a visit during the school day: they will be given a guided tour and take part in a discussion with the
Head of Sixth Form, one of the Heads of Year or another senior member of staff. Offers of places
will be made in late April and early May.
